REBORN wants to design a sustainable, scalable, and circular value chain for second-life lithium-ion batteries. This is achieved by developing smart, safe and cost-efficient battery systems that extend battery life, reduce waste, and support Europe’s competitiveness in the industrial battery value chain.

Develop modular battery system

We aim to create modular, scalable battery systems that optimise energy storage and can be adapted for applications in energy storage and electric vehicles, promoting battery reuse and ensuring compatibility with the battery passport initiative.

Promote circular economy

The project promotes the circular economy by developing technologies that extend the lifecycle of batteries, reduce raw material extraction, and decrease battery waste.

Collaborative innovation

We work with reputable partners from academia, industry, and policy-making to ensure our solutions are scalable and have long-term socioeconomic impact, supporting Europe’s competitiveness in the battery industry.

Energy efficiency and smart design

REBORN focuses on increasing the energy efficiency of storage systems through AI-driven technologies and innovative design to support reconfiguration and disassembly for 2nd life.
